Luncheon
for Linda October 22, 2003 A special lunch was organized by Garnet at Sugi in Greenbelt 2 for Linda. Food was great! From the squid flake and peas ball appetizers brought by Linda, to the crabstick Japanese salad, to the fish cakes with the chewy stuff and wonderful sauce, to the fishhead casserole with sticky noodles (sotanghon), standard tempura (shrimp, fish, vegetables), asparagus tips wrapped in thinly sliced beef tenderloin. And dessert was an assortment of sinful goodies from Bizu complements of Bonnie and Mad. Twelve of us attended. Present there were: Mad, Dido, Charlie, Girl, Marimil, Bonnie, Marie, Garnet, Medy, Cynthia, Zelie, and of course Linda. We hadn't seen each other as a big group since our Punta Fuego outing. So there was so much catching up to do. Dido gave us Holy Water from Lourdes, since she has just returned from a Holy Pilgrimage in Europe together with her husband Tony. They had a chance to visit with Tere Gancayco and her family in Germany. Bonnie must have been out of the country twice since then and someone commented that she travelled so much. "I am just working! The side trips are so limited." Marimil had funny stories about the NCAA games and Grace. Poor Charlie has discovered after Punta that she is diabetic. She lost so much weight without trying. She is worried that her travelling clothes to Vegas, might hang so lose! Cynthia has been busy with her teaching at the La Salle School of Business; and Zelie her training sessions with the basketball teams, not on playing the sport but on human relations stuff. Girl is so busy planning her daughter Stef's annual class party and preparing for the school's fair. She cannot even put down the cell phone for our group pictures. A few of us are planning to take the pottery lessons at the Glorietta. There were funny incidents, like Girl offering to take Linda to Greenhills after the luncheon but Marie interjected perplexed, "but you have no car you are riding with me and we are passing by the bank!" For the group photo, Linda went to get a photgrapher, from whom Girl inquired, " Whose daughter are you." ( in our traditional Assumption style). It turns out that the pretty Japanese photographer is the daughter of the owner of Sugi. Linda knows how to choose! Linda gave us some tidbits on how she met the man who would become her husband and make her Mrs. Kolona. This was in New York! She told us of her polyester pants which she was wearing when they met and her "long gown" from Baclaran made of katsa with embroidery which she wore to a formal function with him in the Playboy Club! (I think). Thankfully he has a relative who brought Linda to the finest stores in New York to help her change her wardrobe...and Linda dutifully acquiesced.
