Luncheon
for Genie
Good Earth, The Fort
April 28, 2004
Those of us who had not seen
Genie since High School graduation more than 35 years ago were delighted to find her the
very Genie we had known then -- sweet, kind, soft spoken. We were lucky to share her
insights on being a Japanese wife. (I would not trade places with her!). But all that is
now past as she leads a very accomplished life at the Temple University in Tokyo City
where she works as Director for Continuing Studies, ever since she finished her Master's
degree. Garnet had equally first-hand but funny stories on the Japanese women and men and
their culture. They smashed a lot of myths which we had believed in for most of our lives!
Her two children Mari and Ken aged 28
and 30 are now in the States working and pursuing further studies, leaving her free
to think about herself and her second chance at life! We wish you the best, Genie!
Present at the luncheon
were Pipit, Dido, Garnet, Bonnie, Corro, Cynthia, Zelie, Ads, Ellen L., Marimil, Peach,
and Medy.

Subject: Thanks for the Manila
Memories
Hello you lovely Manila M&Ms!
Back here in Newark, California and still jet-lagged after two days. Thank you all for
that special Maryknoller homecoming touch.
Medy, Garnet, Paz (don't seem to have your email address handy; Garn, please thank Paz for
me), Marimil, Cynthia (thanks for being there first to keep me company, heh heh), Corro,
Zelie, Dido....THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE SUGI TREAT and especially the pleasure of your
company.
Garnet, thanks again for the second Podium gathering and Cafe Figaro treat...helping me
get a chance to see Chi and Marie there. Chi, no words for seeing you again and
congratulations on doing a super job of raising those nice children--young adults na.
Marie, I truly appreciate the effort--from the root canal experience to our gathering, the
same day! Enjoyed being with you all, and I hope for more occasions in the future.
Dido, it was like hanging out in high school all over again. And Mad, just hearing your
voice was so nice; like I was in high school and young once more.
To you all, thanks again for making the years fall away. I found it nice that I was
remembered by a cross-section of classes 1, 2, and 3, as I did try to make friends in all
sections (maybe trying to get away from sitting next or close to Garnet all those three
years, heh heh).
Seeing you this time, I felt like that sophomore transplant from St. Scho-Bacolod being
welcomed into the fold of really cool gals. Only now, I am in the company of spectacular
WOMEN. You go gals!
Love,
Claudes
