Sister Christelle's Manila Visit

Safe from TSUNAMI     01/03/2005

Dear Marichi,
Thank you so very much for thew prayers for us. thank God we are all safe and not affected by the tsunami. We quite far from it. But let us continue to pray for all the thousands who perished and for the many who are affected by it.

Many of you classmates have written and are praying and asking. I don't have the chance now to respond to them personally...please tell them that we are ok and that I truly appreciate their prayers and concern.
I love you all.
Sister Christelle

Sister Christelle's Special Appeal to M&M's

Subject: thank you from Sister Christelle Zabalerio
Date: Tue, 30 Nov 2004 14:50:33 -0800

Dearest Sister Christelle ~
How nice to hear from you! Thank you for your prayers and blessings.

I'm sharing your message here with the online M&Ms (Maidens & Matrons) of MCHS • 1968 .. I'm only too happy to be the conduit for electronic messages between and among us .. and our memorable teachers like you. I just hope by some of my doing, help is received by those who ask and given by those who can. That e-mail has been a Godsend for us is a reflection of the integrity and sensibility of our group (not true for all e-groups, sadly).

Sweet Sister Christelle (I still think of you as Miss Zabalerio! :-) .. those of us who were privileged to have been your students remember your grace, poise, beauty, and kindness. To me -- a rambunctious, outspoken girl in grade school -- you were a role model for womanhood .. you embodied strength without compromising femininity. (And isn't that our endless goal, Girls? :-)

Please stay in touch, Sister .. make kuwento about the daily life there. A few years ago I met some of the other sisters who were assigned to East Timor (can't remember their names offhand; sorry), at the home of Susie Ramos Montermoso (MCHS • 1964). I'll write you again on that ..

Let me just remind those in my class who are able to contribute to the education of the children of East Timor : please send your checks to --
MARYKNOLL SISTERS • P.O. Box 311 • Maryknoll, NY 10545
On your check's memo field, please write: Sr. Christelle - EDUCATION

Love and gratitude to you as well, Sister Christelle ..

Dear Malu,
Prayers for you and all your loved ones on this first Sunday of Advent. And many many thanks for sharing my e-mail appeal to many of your classmates. You're so kind to do this for me and for our many needy students here in Ailieu, East Timor. I'm sure that you're generosity will be rewarded in many other wonderful blessings from God who cannot be outdone in generosity.
You are all remembered with love, gratitude and pride.
God bless you all.

Subject: an appeal

Dear Marichi,
Hi from Ailieu, East Timor. And Happy Thanksgiving Day!
I got back from the Philippines on Nov. 7 and on the very next day went back to teaching at our High School.
Marichi, thanks a lot for making it possible for me to make connections with some of your classmates. Bonnie was specially very helpful and generous with her time , energy and the gift of herself. Imelda Santiago was the one who organized for some of us to meet and enjoyed a meal together. Sorry, I forgot the name of the place. The important thing was that we had the chance to share sories, too. Ad Lagman, Ellen Limjoco, Garnet David, Imelda Santiago, Zelie Santos, Mads da Silva and Bonnie were there. We had fun. The next day Bonnie and Zalie brought me to the art gallery near Antipolo. And when a Sister I worked with in NY arrived from Japan for the meeting, Bonnie, with her son and daughter brought us to Lucena. All i all I truly was very happy to have had the chance to be with them. I also talked on the phone with Doris, Grace and Cecilia F. All I could say is that I am very proud of all and each of them...of you.
I say, I love teaching. and here I am back to teaching again. The only difference now is that many of our students here truly need help to be able to continue with their studies. And so here I am appealing to your generosity again....for what ever you can send to help them with tuition fees. For our high school students $60.00 a year will help them with their studies.
Marichi, do you think you can share my appeal with some of your classmates? and with Evelyn's classmates, too. Please tell them that they can send their gift to Maryknoll Sisters ans at the memo, pleasewrite Sister Christelle- education.

I'm doing this through e-mail because I still am not sure if our mail from here are able to go out. We receive mail, though.
Marichi, know that I/we will be very grateful for any help you can give us.
Thank you, thank you, thank you.
God bless you all.
love, sister christelle
