Aug 29, 2003. Blessing of our Stations of the Cross. (Just the First Station). Assembled at 9:30 a.m. at the Bamboo Grove in the MC High School.  In attendance were: Peachy Tinio,Girl. Evelyn, Ads, Garnet, Zelie, Dolly, Olive, Missy, Myrna, Marite, Marissa, Corro, Marimil, Medy, Sheba, Bonnie (Empress Dowager, bedecked!), Cynthia, Ellen L., Grace J., and Melin. This event marks the end of our project. Zelie acted as emcee for the programme. Prior to Dolly's speech, Medy gave a brief background on the project: how we conceived it, planned it and executed it. She mentioned how we showed our teamwork, cooperation and rekindled school spirit as we carved, molded, painted, erased, cracked, and baked the plates which became the stations. She stressed how the constant updates to everyone through the web gave the chance for those not physically present to  act as cheerleaders for those of us working, thus bringing us to this happy project end.

Dolly in turn gave a beautiful speech on the significance of the Stations to our own lives. Click here for full text.  What was important to note was that even the Lord cooperated on this special day. As our ceremony began, the bright sky was suddenly overcast with gusts of wind, clouds threatening to pour. It was however a welcome relief from the heat and the sun's rays, bad for our delicate skin, particularly, Marimil's.  (No need for her dainty parasol from China!)

But the sway of the bamboo and the rustle of leaves plus its falling leaves gave a dramatic effect to the ceremony as the HS Faculty Choir rendered a deeply spiritual song so appropriate for the occasion.   The clouds held out till about the time of Tati's acceptance speech. The Lord tested us, for we refused to budge even as a slight drizzle could be felt; and thankfully, it disappeared. We ended the occasion with our school song...The Blue and Gold of Maryknoll...Lead onward heavenward Maryknoll, God's blessings be yours from above.

With Sheba Without Sheba "Pretty maidens..

Reception was at Mama Rossa's (Tikki's restaurant) in Eastwood Center. Tikki could not attend because of her brother's 40th day of prayer tonight; but her grown daughter who looks like Tikki attended to us. Just as well....since we turned the restaurant upside down, in our usual fashion of gaffawing, chittering at the same time, giggling and generally giving a preview of what is to come at Punta.

Sheba brought out the T-shirts which we will use at Punta. Our supermodel Grace graciously modelled it for us. The food was something else! Indescribable...delectable! All in all, I would say we had a very successful day!!!

Postscript. The video recording of our project which will be presented on September 6 during the Jubilee celebration in the Miriam/Maryknoll auditorium was reviewed by Bonnie, Mad, Peachy and Medy today September 3. They jointly worked on revising the poetry that served as the script for the presentation. If space will allow, we will post a small version of the presentation on the web for interested M&M's to download. Abangan!

Presentation of the Stations of the Cross Project. Maryknoll College Auditorium. September 6, 2003. Peach Tinio sent a message that the Mass had ended and the girls were amassing in the auditorium. By 8:00 p.m. Girl reported that Peach was giving a short talk prior to the showing of our video presentation; also that Ellen L. and Jopie were also there. While watching the video, Ads and she had wished that Peach had recited the poem to get more attention from the audience. But her seatmate who was from the class of Margie Moran commented that our Class '68 is now some sort of a legend with our donation of the Stations of the Cross. Zelie also sent a message from a Maryknoll Administration Officer stating: "Congratulations to your class for a very meaningful video presentation and an inspiring gift to MC. Wishing you more love to share.!" Our Class '68 owes Peachy big time for swinging this one; without her willingness and confidence, who among us would have stood in front of that audience? I told her so and this is what she said, "You are all very welcome. Glad to have been of service." Our hats off to you Peach for redeeming us.
